Tricolor

Fagus sylvatica

About

Arguably among the showiest of the European Beeches. Leaves emerge in Spring with a decidedly yellow to golden cast, maturing into a kaleidoscope of white, rose pink, purple, and deep green. In the South, full shade is needed to protect the foliage from scorch. Of note: Often Beeches and other variegated plants have reduced variegation as Spring wanes and Summer arrives. Given good shade and not too much water, this stays stunning through most of the season. If we get a really hot dry late July and August, even the best watering regimen won't save this from defoliation. Do NOT fret. Consistent water will ensure it shows off again next Spring.
