Suruga Nishiki

Acer palmatum

Dissectum

About

One of the mysteries of Maple Hill. Purchased from the Nichols in 2013, references to this cultivar indicate a palmatum, not dissectum. What I can share is that the foliage is quite distinct for a dissectum, emerging a soft chartreuse in Spring with a painterly edge of soft carmine red. By painterly I mean that it has a brushed effect, not a distinct border, and the amount varies widely leaf to leaf. Snuggles under a very old dogwood on Dwarf Drive, Suruga Nishiki is quite a delight.
