Vitifolium

Acer japonicum

About

There's a long standing "Highlander" rule on Maple Hill that I frequently break. That rule is - There can be only one (of a variety). Vitifolium was definitely a rule breaker all the way back in 2009. Vitifolium as a name references the similarities of the rounded leaf to that of the grape Vitis. It was introduced to Western gardens in 1864. Large green leaves stun in the Fall with beautiful shades of gold, red, orange, purple, and green. There is a reason I planted it in easy view below my kitchen window.
