Calycanthus x raulstonii
In 1991, Richard Hartlage crossed Calycanthus Florida and Calycanthus chinensis (Sinocalycanthus chinensis), and a sweet shrub was born with remarkable vigor and abundant burgundy blooms with the shape and display of chinensis with the color (and partial scent) of floridus. The hybrid epithet honors the director of the NCSU Arboretum, now know as the JC Raulston Arboretum.
