Red Bird

Red Bird is a tremendous variety that gives red all through the season, with lime green bark that shines in Winter. Color can be bold shades of crimson to scarlet, even in Fall. Reportedly less spreading habit then other matsumurae, but mine has been a stock plant for many years, and it is hard to judge ultimate shape. I am a huge fan of this variety, though some dieback or thinning does occur.
