Acer palmatum
Matsumurae
Kinran means Woven with Golden String. I have a confession. This is the first variety of Japanese maples my parents ever purchased for me. As a teenager, I fell in love with the description, and certainly enjoyed every moment that it lived, which was several years in a container. In Middlesboro, we often got hot and cold snaps in Spring. Luckily, being gardeners to the core, we had a sunroom where fortunate plants in danger could hide out from the bitter morning frosts. I marveled how the beautiful green bark gave rise to the brick red long lobed leaves with lime green veins. Then in Fall, those same green veins glowed the beautiful gold of a fine tapestry. Needless to say I was hooked. And have been ever since. This has become a hard to find variety that should be planted more.
